Meet the face
behind the posts
I guess I ought to start this introduction with the name. Well... my name is Sophie and one day a friend decided he was going to call me Sophie, Winter Born, Queen of the North, as a nod to our mutual love of history and Game of Thrones.
His reasoning being that Sansa is played by a woman called Sophie, I am from Yorkshire (where the folk will tell you we are Northern) and I was born in December, back in '88 when December actually meant winter was upon us.
And so, while I dropped the Queenship, I kept Winter Born. It has a ring to it that I rather like.

The thing is, I do really enjoy history. I enjoy geeking out about how things used to be and how our pasts shaped our present and continue to shape out futures and this blog, is just an extension of me and things that bring me joy, or make me think deeply, or stir my intellect in some way.

Even my own personal and family history are subjects that fascinate me. My heritage is a mixture of German, Sinti and Romany on my mother's side and my Dad's side sticks to their motto of Yorkshire born and bred, despite their name dating back to the Norman conquest.

Aside from history, I love hiking, wildlife, donuts, Dutch pancakes, my cat and to end with a cliché, my family. All of which will probably feature at some point or another in this blog...

As will my experiences travelling and exploring with an eating disorder and PTSD.

Let's see where this blog goes...
